Cavities are Not Just for Kids

4.jpgCavities are not only present among kids’ teeth. As people age, the changes that go with the aging process make cavities a problem also among adults. Gums may recess away from the teeth, and together with an increased cases of periodontal disease, the roots of the teeth may be exposed to plaque. A tissue, which is softer than enamel, called cementum covers the tooth roots. They are prone to tooth decay. They have a higher sensitivity to touch and also to hot and cold. Most of the people over the age of 50 have decays on tooth roots. When adults have fillings in their teeth, cavities can develop around the edges and margins of the fillings.
