The number one cause of tooth decay is sucrose. It is a granulated sugar which can be found in sugary foods such as candies, cookies and sodas. They go hand in hand with starchy foods (such as cereals and breads). When these starches are mixed with amylase, which is a saliva enzyme, the result will be a very dangerous acid bath for the teeth.
Be very careful in eating dried fruits. They can be very hard on the teeth because they are very high in sugar. Dried fruits often cling to the teeth. Fruit juices (even if they are unsweetened), contributes very highly to tooth decay, for these are acidic and they contain very high levels of simple sugars.
